THE DESIGN APPROACH

THE DESIGN APPROACH

The Smithsonian Channel visual redesign needed to give the streaming experience a modern, sleek, and content first approach that enabled the beautiful photography to take visual priority. During initial research, it was found that leading streaming services a dark experience allows for the content to pop, tiles need to be large enough remote control, and organization is key for a easy to use experience.

PUSHING THE BRAND FORWARD

PUSHING THE BRAND FORWARD

The Smithsonian Channel was open to exploring a different expression of their colorful and friendly brand. Since their latest rebrand occurred back in the early 2000’s, there was an acknowledged flexibility with how the digital design system was established. Continuing with the idea of a dark experience, the color system chosen embraces dark hues that pair well with the Smithsonian Channel yellow and feel onbrand. A friendly, easy-to-read font that is also contemporary was a priority so Gotham was chosen.
